Europan 17: Peaurosités
[ Nantes, Loire Atlantique ]
2023
With Bénédicte Chevallier and Lucie Daum
The University Hospital Complex (CHU), located in the densely built-up heart of Nantes, appears to be a place of possibilities. Both in terms of its size and the diversity of its spaces, buildings and interfaces, it offers the possibility of combining styles, heights, views and lives. What already exists holds the promise of a diversity of possibilities. It’s a town where the density of the buildings and the minerality of the land make us forget the island’s past, and its centuries-old relationship with the Loire.
Peaurosité is a method rather than a fixed design ex-nihilo. The project’s approach is iterative, layered in time and space to accompany and develop the four main themes. To this end, three phases, intimately linked to skin and fabric, allow us to imagine the exchanges between the block and the city. The skin, here, is the surface of exchange that conditions our relationship with the world. It is both a wall and an interface.
4 four themes: Cultivating the living, Restoring care, Inhabit and "Adrift".
3 periods: Reactivating the epidermis, Open pores, Regenerate tissue.
